http://felvanese.wordpress.com/ <-- this is the blog of Fel Vanese Tuyac. The design of her blog is quite simple, bright background and strong font colors. In an ordinary person's view, the design can be considered as good and attractive, her blog has search bar, calender and etc. which is makes it easy to view and explore. On the other hand, if a real blogger looks at it, the design can be considered as too simple, very simple in fact. I suggest that the author should use a darker background or just put a little design that makes her blog a bit dark so its not very bright when you look at it.

Queen Mary 2 and Partner

Queen Mary 2 and Partner

The Queen Mary 2 (QM2) is the largest and most expensive cruise ship ever built. It includes five swimming pools, a planetarium, a two-story theater that seats 1,000, a casino, a gym, luxurious kennels, a nursery staffed with British nannies, and the largest ballroom, library and wine collection at sea. Of all its amenities, the one considered most valuable to the crew and management and key to the functioning of the vessel is the integrated network and information system accessible in every cabin.

The $800 million QM2, constructed in the shipyard at Chantiers del’ Atlantique, France, and owned by Miami- based Cunard Line Ltd., made her maiden voyage in early 2004. Passengers in each of her 1,310 cabins had access to digital entertainment such as on-demand movies and interactive television. Each cabin is also wired with Internet access and network services. For example, passengers use the network to make shore excursion reservations and dinner plans.

Upon checking in, passengers are presented with a plastic bar-coded card. The card is used while on board to make purchases, which are then billed to the customer’s account. It is also swiped as guests leave and return to the ship to track passenger location. The ship’s massive data network brings order where there once was chaos. Ship managers can run reports showing which passengers are on board, how many will be attending the morning exercise class, and which entrée was most popular at last night’s dinner. The network and database are backed up by redundant systems that automatically take over if the primary system fails.

The information system, called the Ship Partner, is used to track security, billing, telephone service, onboard television, and other operations. It was designed by Discovery Travel Systems LP (DTS). John Broughan, president of DTS, says that the IT needs of cruise ship operators differ from those of typical hotel property management companies, so specialized systems had to be created to better serve cruise companies.

The Queen Mary 2 provides yet another example of how information systems assist with management functions, providing valuable information and offering services to customers.

Critical Thinking Questions

1. What conveniences does The Ship Partner information system provide to passengers of the Queen Mary 2? What entertainment services could be made available to passengers through this digital network?

Ship Partner information system best of everything including comfort, entertainment and security on the passengers of the Queen Mary 2. Since the cabin of the cruise ship is equipped with access on the internet and network services, passengers can use the network to have their plans and reservations. Also the passengers had an access to their entertainment digitally to demand such movies.

2. How does The Ship Partner information system assist ship managers with their duties and responsibilities?

The Ship Partner Information System assists ship managers by the process of running reports on the system and show it which passengers are on board. For example: how many will attend the morning exercise, which entrée was most popular at the last night’s dinner. Another is that their Information System helps the manager provide the effectiveness of services to those on-board passengers.

3. How does The Ship Partner information system assist Cunard in competing in the travel industry? What other travel & leisure industries would benefit from a system like The Ship Partner?

The Ship Partner Information System is a vast support in competing in the travel industry and with provides valuable information to give services to the passengers. It also accommodates a massive number of information to the on-boards. Their modem comfort brought by their system will be recognized by the passengers.

4. Why is it important for the Ship Partner to have a backup system? How would a system wide failure affect the functioning of the ship?

Since having a backup system for the Ship Partner is very important, it is an essential way and an advantage for the Ship to backup their system because there are many passengers are boarding and these involves many transactions and businesses. It there comes a system breakdown, it will paralyze and give burden to the cruise ship to function very well. Because of this, it would cause a huge amount of many to fix and recover their Information System.

IT320 Project Management Case Study 1

Reaction Paper (Green Projects)
Since our world is experiencing from tremendous heat such as global warming, air and water pollution, energy waste and efficiency, alternative energy sources and many more, many projects that are developed were contributing to these earthly problems. So the people or the concerned project managers created a project that could reduce the pollution, reduce the fossil fuel consumption and other negative effects on the environment. Every project manager should be aware and gain much focus to these kinds of issues. Because of the concerned human beings, the “green project” and the “green collar jobs” was created as an example. Project management on these types of project needs and requires marginally unlike skills than the other types of projects. As what I have read in the article “Green Projects” by Dave Neilsen that’s discusses about projects and project management, in his article there was a report tackled in Toronto stars that states developers of large scale solar farms in Ontario, Canada are organizing to fight with the provincial government due to the restrictions of the solar farms to where it can be placed. Most of us already what is a solar farm. Solar Farms are popping up all across the USA as we move from a fossil fuel based economy to a renewable energy based economy. Solar panels are solar photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into electricity and many solar photovoltaic power stations have been built, mainly in Europe. These solar farms are wide areas of solar panels that can supply a good amount of electricity to a power grid.

Lessons learned after reading the commencement address of Steve Jobs

I haven't learned a lesson to his commencement address

I guess I will learn a lesson in my own experience.

I appreciate Steve Job's stories: "Connecting the dots" "Love and loss" and "Death"

I cannot relate to his experiences

I already learned that I should do the things I love to do, good or bad.

I believe that no one could say that they are successful in their life.

No one has reached the finish line alive.

But always think positive

Even if you have a 1% chance

Then use it to achieve what you want

Time is limited

Life is so fast

But we don't need to hurry ourselves

What's important is just don't be late.

All I just want to say is that if you have a dream

Do everything, race with it until you grab it

Even if you gasp for breathe then prolong it

"Initin lang ang kalan para tubig kumulo"
"Kailangan timbain lang ang poso para balde ay mapuno"
"Wag magpapabola sa iba kasi hindi ito madali"
"Kung merong gusto wag lang magmadali"
"Tatama pa rin kahit na laging mali mali"
"Ipunin lahat nang piraso kahit na hati-hati"

One thing that we should remember

Collect all the pieces that was left

No obstacles that we cannot overcome.

Don't be afraid to risk.

Life's Purpose on You

No introduction
My purpose in life is
To change my self
To finish my course and find a good job to help my family
To earn money
To make people clap and to make people laugh
To make some friends cry and to make them smile
To achieve a dream that is possible to reach
Not to preach but to teach
To do good on my own
To help others and give sympathy to them
Not thinking on some salvation to heaven
To follow the path which my heart and mind tells me
Not just by believing on the chosen path they say
I will do my plan according to what my self wants
Not depending on what they call "His plan"
To discover the mysteries on earth
That my innocent mind keeps questioning since birth
And to make it happen I will not connect the dots
But to collect and save the pieces that was left
Even life is in a hurry
It is not important to be so early
Just don't be late.

To be continued...

Reflections/insights on the personal traits test ... (at least 2000 words)

Last Saturday, our facilitator Mr. Randy Gamboa gave us a personality trait test and gave us an assignment to be passed on the twenty fifth of August, 2010. He told us to make a reflection (at least 2000 words galore) in our personality traits test. So before I start, I will just ask what personality trait is? Most of us have a vast knowledge of what a personality trait is or maybe familiar with it, or some of us does not what is the definition of it, or exactly do not have an idea with this. I have researched many facts about personality and personality traits, some details are simple and others are complicated. But luckily, I have found an explanation that best describes and defines a human being’s personality. According to my research, Personalities are distinctive. Every one of us has a different trait. Each individual behaves according to certain distinctive patterns throughout a variety of situations. Humans are finely tuned to observe these behavior patterns of acquaintances and to notice behavior differences among people.
We might use or most of us use the words such as talkative, cheerful, cold, disorganized, compulsive, intellectual, shrewd, shortsighted, flirtatious, or ruthless to describe or to define various people whom we know or the people we see. Also, we have probably observed that these various behaviors stay with the person consistently over time and throughout a variety of circumstances. These persistent behavior patterns, called personality traits, are stable over time, consistent in a variety of situations, and differ from one individual to the next. According to Dr. Philip George Zimbardo (an American psychologist and a professor emeritus at Stanford University) Personality can be defined as the psychological qualities that bring continuity to an individual’s behavior in different situations and at different times.
Over the years several efforts have helped to understand and develop a common vocabulary to describe personality traits. The most fruitful begin with the simple idea that humans introduce words into their language to describe interesting aspects of the world around them. This idea forms the basis for the lexical hypothesis, which states:
Those individual differences that are of most significance in the daily transactions of persons with each other will eventually become encoded into their language. The more important is such a difference, the more people will notice it and wish to talk of it; with the result that eventually they will invent a word for it.
Beginning with a list of more than 18,000 descriptive terms extracted from unabridged dictionaries, researchers first selected then extensively studied a list of adjectives describing stable personality traits. Subjects were asked to rate each term according to how well it described the behavior of particular people they knew well. Common factors were extracted from this data and the result is the “The Big Five Personality Factors” which is very similar to the “Five Factor Model of Personality”.
Below, I've listed some of the traits I admire most in people. Although I could probably list a dozen characteristics, I thought I could list those that seem to be the rarest or most difficult to find. I guess it is the most important factors that others should know for them to reflect if they obtain these character traits. First is
Selflessness: In a world where many people don’t have the time or the interest in others, selflessness is a quality that seems to be less and less common. People can be selfless in the time they give, the ability to listen, their level of patience and the love that they give. Those who are giving and generous in nature have the power to make others feel loved, appreciated and special. While those who are self absorbed tend to do the exact opposite. Second is
Tolerance: Those people who are tolerant make us feel comfortable with who we are and special as individuals. All of us are different, and many of us have quirks and idiosyncrasies. After all, these differences make the world go round. Having the ability to accept people for whom they are and not expect them to be who we want them to be is important in life, happiness and in the health of our relationships. The third one is
Genuineness: Having the ability to be real, authentic and honest is unique in a world where we put so much emphasis on the superficial. Feeling comfortable in one’s skin and being true to one’s self is one of the most beautiful traits one can possess. To have a REAL relationship with someone requires honesty…it requires hearing and giving input or feedback that may not always be popular…it means having the strength to tell it like it is and to not be afraid to face the consequences for doing so…it means loving people for who they really are…deep down…and not for what they appear to be. Next is
Sensitivity: So often we are focused on what is important to ourselves that we can forget about those around us. Those who are sensitive are often thoughtful, appreciative and loving, in a way that makes you feel understood, valued and respected. Often, sensitive people are also self-aware, making them mindful of how they impact others with what they do and say. Another one is
Integrity: Call me cynical, but I think this characteristic is especially difficult to find. In a time when people will do things that are underhanded to make an extra buck (Bernie Madoff…can you hear me?), expose their personal lives to the public so they can be famous (balloon boy’s dad and any other reality TV mongers) and do what feels good in the moment without necessarily thinking of the consequences (Tiger Woods), integrity is a characteristic that is especially unique today. And the last is
Humility: Whether someone is super-smart, extremely talented or drop-dead gorgeous, there is something extra special about them if they don’t come across as though they know it all the time. Humility in those that possess extraordinary traits makes other feel special too.

It is very important to know our personality well. It is a good thing to do if we know our selves not just by the simple and the basic information that we knew. Knowing our selves helps us to be a good person and makes us do our jobs right and be a nice person to live in this world and to enjoy the life those we are living right now. By knowing our personal traits, our capabilities, and our attitudes, we could improve our work and excel our jobs better than the past works.
During our personality traits test last Saturday, I think it was on August 14, if I am not mistaken, I am not really sure but as far as I could remember, I was nervous of the said personality traits test because mainly, I do not have any idea of what was it, obviously I know that it was just a test that is answerable by a yes or no or a set of questions that must be answered by a given choices, regarding to that, I was nervous because I thought the test was a graded test, because it is one of my phobia and trauma, having a test or exam without having any idea on how to solve it. Sadly, I mean, happily and luckily the test was not a graded one. When I answered the given questions with an item of thirty two, I answered it easily because the choices are just answered by a yes or a no. Before we took up the personality traits test, many questions are roaming and bothering in my mind. First was “what is the importance of taking the test? It really intrigues me very well because my mind is really curious of what value I could get from these. Next question that entered from my mind was “after these tests, now what?” It took me a hard time to convince my self that the test was for our own good. When we checked the results of our test, I was shocked and I can not believe that my score was 42, and its meaning is “some what entrepreneurial”. I can’t accept the remark that I have got from the personality traits test. All I did is just I answered each and every questions honestly and cheating the test never entered in my mind that time, I just followed my mind’s will and choose the answer that I think would be the right one that fits to the question. I disagree with the result and the remarks to my personality test, because as what I have wrote in my past post in our assignment in technopreneur subject is that I really hate business. Until now, I still won’t believe that I have a capability and quality to be a good entrepreneur. All I think is that the personality traits test was a total joke. I remembered one of my subject during my high school days, I guess it was T.L.E, Technology and Livelihood Education, I am not sure what ever it is, our teacher told us to sell something goods or products or even food as a requirement to our project. Then as far as I could remember, my classmate were thinking of some business strategy and tactics to make there business a bit more progressive and to get a good grade because my teacher told us that the higher the income, the higher the grade is, but I don’t believe in him because deep inside, I have an idea that he has a share of the income of his students that is why he gives good grades to students who have a better income as an incentives. To me, because I do not like business, I just did the selling effortless without having a doubt that I might get a low grade.
I never imagined that I am studying to become a good technopreneur someday. When I learned the character traits of a technopreneur, I laughed at myself I don’t know if I am happy or upset because I only found few traits that I could relate to become a technopreneur. I also get upset when our instructor tells us to think of a unique business or something because my mind won’t work easily with that because as I have mentioned earlier that I hate business. For now, I am just giving my self more and more time thinking if I could learn to bear with technopreneurship and also I am giving my self a break and think other things. Maybe, if the time comes, my mind would change its mindset and I will start to like it though I think it is impossible. May be, later or some day, I would realize all of these somehow. Since I was a kid, I never imagined or dreamt of something being an entrepreneur or being a businessman or a somebody that works and deals business transactions. My interest is just I wanted to be a good writer, not a story writer nor a journalist or what ever it is, I just wanted to be a writer of poems, a lyricist, a master of writing meaningful songs. I never dreamed to be a businessman, and I cannot accept that my result and remark is “some what entrepreneurial”, what the heck. I must admit that may be I have a potential as an entrepreneur, I may have the quality to be a successful business man. The personality traits test made me realized that I obtain not all, but most and some of the character traits, qualities or capabilities of a good entrepreneur. I just need time to know my self, not just by the basic in formations I have known, but the hidden abilities and hidden attitudes I obtain. Because one thing I realized also in this reflection is that most of us or almost is that we are a stranger to our own selves. We just need to know and discover these qualities and attitudes because at the end, this may help us to grab and achieve our goals and the peak of our success in life. That’s all, thank you. Especially to the total brownout I was forced to write it all again.amen.
